League Track Meet

The League Track meet in Grand Junction last weekend was the most fun track meet that I have ever coached in my track coaching career! I normally don't post a ton about track as there would never be an end to my posts, but I had to post a few favorites.

Our "distance" team dinner the week before the meet. There are kids that I work with everyday and am responsible for training. A part of this crew below includes the new 4x800 boys school record holder, the 400m school recorder holder, and the 800m school record holder. Some seriously talented kids and just plain great to work with.

We took this picture right before we started the meet - here is our League team!
Note: We finished the season with about 146 kids on the team and we get to take the top 3 in each event and one relay team…so these kids are the best of our best!

Matching hats! Always time for some fun pics while we wait for the next event.

New 100 Hurdles School Record Holder and two-time state qualifier…as a freshmen!

You may be asking, why was this meet so fun? Well, all year we were thinking that we had our best team yet on the girls side and that the boys were still pretty solid. We had won the boys side in 2012, but the girls title has gone to our rival county school Battle Mountain for the past three years in a row. We thought we had a chance for a double win, but it was a stretch and some things would have to go in our favor.

After starting a few points behind after the Thursday night pole vault, we were not excited. When Friday rolled around and BMHS was disqualified from their first relay, things started to look up! There was a lot of point counting and highs and lows over the two days. Every point mattered and every handoff was crucial. As the boys ran away with the title, the girls race got increasingly more interesting.  Our girls out-performed themselves in nearly every area with numerous school records and season bests. We worked tirelessly as coaches to put together our best lineup and it paid off! The whole meet came down to the final race…the 4x4 meter relay. We had our best team in there and ran away with the title. It was such a fun afternoon to watch the girls (and the boys) be so elated with themselves!

Eric Update

I was able to see our dear friend Eric at our track meet in Grand Junction last weekend. It was sooooo good to see him and hear what is going on in his world.

If you don't know who Eric is, he was a student and athlete of ours back in 2007. Prior to his senior year in 2009, he was having some hard times with his family and he lived with us during his senior year at Eagle Valley. He then went off to college at Mesa and has lived in GJ ever since. He will admit he has had some low motivation points of his life, but what a joy it was to see him now!

Eric is working at a local gym and taking classes to be a trainer. He has gotten ripped himself and lost a lot of weight. He is saving up for a car. He runs to work most days. He is valued and trusted by his employer. He is doing everything he can to put his best foot forward in this life and be a blessing to those around him.

So proud of you, Eric!

Here is a great pic from back when he was living with us.

Macy's First Haircut

In an effort to control the "ear mullet" that Macy was growing, we bit the bullet and went to the salon! We highly recommend Stephanie at Turning Heads Salon in Eagle. She was great with Macy and gave her a great new shape!

Here is the best I could find of an after picture, a little bob cut!

Bouldering in Red Cliff

While our life has changed for the better with our beautiful children, our passion for the outdoors has stayed with us. We hope that Macklin and Macy will enjoy God's creation for all of the splendor that it is! We took the kids bouldering in Red Cliff last month. It was a blast. We get to adventure out in to the woods with the kids, maybe climb a few bouldering problems, and then nap on the way home (the kids of course). These pictures of Macklin make me happy as he creates new scenarios everywhere he goes!

YL Capture the Flag

What a sweet night it was in Beaver Creek Village on Wednesday. We had a whole crew of kids playing Capture the Flag from one end of the village to another. Since it is after the ski season and before the summer time, no one is in the village. It is literally a ghost town….that is, until Young Life shows up. It is such a joy to share Jesus with these kids!

Abbie's Baby Shower

The Feucht's with Abbie, Becky, and myself

Becky hosted a wonderful shower with help from the Feucht family and myself to celebrate Baby Rittmiller. We kept things simple by using her nursery colors, playing a couple of games and enjoyed being in the presence of each other. I wish I would have taken a picture of one of the games. We posted pictures of women in movies and guests had to guess whether they were from a horror movie or from labor. It was quite funny! One of my favorite parts of the day took place at the end of the shower. Jason came by to say thank you and really expressed his gratitude for all of us there as we celebrated their upcoming addition. It was a great afternoon.

Macklin's First Soccer Team

Macklin completed his second "Wee Sports" team this spring by playing soccer! As in basketball, Macklin had his moments where things were fun and others where he wanted to leave (and actually did). Justin took him since the practices were during my track practices and they enjoyed the experience together. Macklin is so proud of his jerseys (somehow he ended up with two) and his new ball! Thanks to WECMRD for providing such fun, affordable ways to get pre-schoolers into sports!
