Beaver Creek Snowshoe 2014

I rallied up some of my cross country runners and we headed up to Beaver Creek for the final snowshoe race of 2014. After placing 2nd in my first two races, I was able to take the win in the final one. They have simplified things out in terms of prizes, so another medal seems insignificant compared to the satisfaction of a solid race. I was really encouraged by one of my athletes that I ran with a few days before the race. I love how inspiration can come from a variety of sources, including my JV runners! Another enjoyable year from BC. By far my favorite new sport since moving to Colorado.

After two cold races, we were blessed with a beautiful day!

Mimi's Quick Visit

After a long travel day, Mimi finally got here! We thought that she wasn't going to get to come out this winter, but with Justin's last minute trip, she took advantage…and we were so happy to have her! She arrived with Ninja Turtles in hand and Macklin was excited for every minute with her from that point on!

Sunday was filled with a morning at church, followed by lunch at Northside Cafe where Macklin decided he needed a nap. That left time for Mimi and I to have a couple hours of chat time. Then we ran a few errands and headed up to the mountain for a little skiing and Beaver Creek cookies!

Macklin was a bit slow to get moving, but he finished on a great note! He was making "pizzas" and stopping on his own. Mimi even got stuck on the gondola with a perfect view of Macklin skiing down below her! I hope he is ready for Papa's visit later in the week. Any time on the mountain always includes a little snow play!

Mimi and Macklin with their Starbucks (first time for Macklin to get a Vanilla Steamer..he loved it!)

Monday was filled with  more adventures. After a lazy morning, we headed to Glenwood for lunch at the Pullman (which was super yummy) and some errands. Then we ventured out to 4 Mile Recreation area near Sunlight Ski Resort. It was a beautiful drive and Macklin got a nap while we traveled. After testing my car through some thick snow, we parked and ventured around on our snowshoes (and without that caused us to sink!). It was a fun day!

Mom - Thanks so much for making time to come visit! I cherish every moment with you!

Biggest Snow of the Season

The biggest snow storm of the season took place the day Vail was closing. We enjoyed the last day at Vail on Sunday with 13 new inches of snow (first time all season that the mountains reported more than a foot in one day). Gypsum, however, didn't get more than a dusting. All of that changed when we woke up Monday morning. We had about 4 inches on the ground at 6am and then it kept coming. By noon, we had about 14 inches! It continued to snow until 6pm but it didn't accumulate much as the temperature had risen.

We didn't waste a beat. I enjoyed watching the snow fall inside a coffee shop as I did some budgeting (without babies). The picture above is after 2 hours inside! Then, before nap time, Macklin and I made his first snow cave. He totally loved it and was actually engaged in the building process the whole time.

After naps, we headed up to Cottonwood Pass Rd to snowshoe and cross country ski (which I still am horrible at) with the kids in the Chariot. Even though it is spring break, bring on the snow!
